Australian domain name rules

Introduction

The rules governing the allocation of Australian .com.au, .net.au, org.au are many and complex. In this page we will attempt to provide you with a brief overview of the most critical things required to allow your business to register an AU domain name. If you have a head for legalistic text, please check out our more detailed version of the  Australian Domain Name Rules - more info!

In general, AU domain names can only be registered by resident Australian citizens, or businesses that have a trading entity registered in Australia.

  • Applicant must be able to supply a registration number
  • All registrations are for a 2 year period
